Elizabeth pest control

We are New Jersey's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical Elizabeth raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most Elizabeth pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

Elizabeth Raccoon Control Tip: Is There A Greater Population Of Raccoons In Rural Or Urban Areas?
The presence of raccoons in urban areas is something that has become increasingly visible over the last century or so, with the growth in the raccoon population going alongside the growth in our towns and cities. Raccoons are creatures that have adapted well to living alongside people in many areas, and while there are different threats for their survival than if they live in rural areas, there are also advantages to them living in urban areas too. You can still find raccoons living in rural areas, but it is interesting to see how the population of the species has changed as man has had an effect on their habitat.

The Raccoon's Natural Habitat
Raccoons are creatures that would traditionally have been found in rural areas, where they would be fairly close to a water source such as a stream or a river, as they generally prefer to douse their food in water before consuming it. The other key feature of the raccoon's natural habitat is that they would generally be found in areas where they would be in woodland, as they are wonderful climbers, and use the ability to flee into the trees as a way of avoiding predators. In these rural areas they would often be found nesting among the branches of a tree if there was a small hole of cavity in the trunk, or in the stump of an old tree.

Why Have Raccoons Adapted So Well To Urban Life?
One of the key reasons that raccoons have adapted so well to changes in their habitat is their robust digestive system, and as raccoons are omnivores that can eat meat as well as vegetable matter, this helps them when scavenging in urban areas. As they are good climbers, and generally nocturnal animals, both of these features will usually mean that they won't come into contact with the people in urban areas that often. There are however consequences of having raccoons present around your area, as they do transmit disease, and can also contaminate food sources and standing water butts with urine and feces.

Estimates Of The Population Distribution Of Raccoons
When you look at where raccoons will have the highest populations, most of the experts seem to estimate that the number of raccoons living in urban areas of the country now outnumber those living in rural areas. Indeed, there are many that believe that raccoons have even become more successful than rats at being the species that can survive around the settlements of people most successfully. Another side effect of urban living for raccoons is that studies are showing their brains are actually getting larger as well, to help them adapt to the new environment that the species is dealing with in our urban and suburban areas.

What To Do If There Are Raccoons Active Near Your Property
There are several signs that can be indicators that you have raccoons active near or around your property, and one of the most common signs of their presence is if you start to see garbage bags being torn open to get to the food inside. One step to try and keep these animals away is to limit their access to potential food sources, so keeping any garbage in a shed or garage, in a garbage can is one step. You may also want to ensure any pet food stores are kept in sealed containers rather than in their sacks. However, if the raccoon activity persists, you can either look to set a trap and catch the animal yourself, or hire a professional to do the work for you.
